I was born in Cambridge in 1973 and lived there for only 6 months before my father's work took the family to Africa. I grew up mainly in Kenya and Zambia, but also lived in Tanzania, Swaziland and Uganda where my main interests were sport, photography and wildlife tracking. The nature of African life meant that many of my playtime hours were spent creating something out of nothing e.g. a car out of a metal coat-hanger and used tin cans!

At an early age I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and was fortunate enough to return to England at the age of 11 in order to attend a specialist school - Grenville College - in Bideford, North Devon. Whilst I did not excel in academic subjects my practical skills began to shine through and completion of a Quest analysis programme suggested a career in aircraft engineering or dental technology. I had spotted a Dental laboratory within walking distance from the school and decided to take the opportunity to arrange some work experience.

I was lucky; I was completely hooked after my first day and have never looked back. I was accepted in to Southampton Technical College in 1990 and qualified in 1993 with a distinction in orthodontics.

I began my working life in Bristol in 1993. I worked hard and gained valuable experience from dentists, orthodontists and technicians. I now consider myself, 20+ years on, to be an experienced orthodontic technician.

With this business I wish to be able to share my skills and knowledge with laboratories and Orthodontists/Dentists alike. I hope that I can make it a success by providing a reliable and high quality service to all my customers.

In early 2013 I had the good fortune to be nominated for the 2013 Dental Laboratory Awards under the category of 'Best Orthodontic Laboratory'. I was delight to be a finalist but, unfortunately did not make the top step of the podium. That honour went to St Mary's Hospital (London).

In addition to my regular practice I have been involved in a number of other projects.

In 2011 I was approached by Professor Alice Roberts regarding a programme she was making for BBC 2 called 'The Origins Of Us'.  She asked me to construct acrylic and plaster models to be used for demonstration purposes in the series. The models were used during an episode on diet and the evolution of dentition and also in the opening sequence of the programme!

I am currently a member or registered with the following organisations:

DLA, OTA, DTA, MHRA, DAMAS and GDC.

I still enjoy sport and photography and have also added jewellery design and making to my interests outside work.
